Wild Mountain Nation

Wild Mountain Nation published on

Come out from the world
and into my arms
like wind on the water with me
come out from the city
come out from the town
build stone by stone a wild mountain home

When the red moon wanes
we’ll be moving on the plains
through the tall grass out to the sea
and we’ll cross that water
my wild mountain lover
like wolves running silent and free

So if your love won’t grow
and the rivers won’t flow
just join that holy desert tribe
is where we saddle up to ride
you know that wild mountain nation
on the rise of going home

Come out from the world
and into my arms
like wind on the water with me
with wings like the angels
and hearts like the sun
building stone by stone
a wild mountain home

Undine

Undine published on

Made steps towards the water where Undine last was seen
I was told that if you saw her she would make you more naive
made my steps towards the shore where she sang her love at me
oh Undine so sweet and pure make me more naive

Oh Undine, sing your love to me
Oh Undine, I know not love as love as seen

There were ropes around my wrist, and the tide pulled at her hair
Pulling her away from me and me away from there
Yes the water tried to take her, tried to make poor Undine hide
But she fought herself against it, love in her had not yet died

Oh Undine, sing your love to me
Oh Undine, fight your way, fight your way

You live for the sea
Oh Undine you live for the sea
You cannot you cannot
you cannot love me

It was cold there in December, so I took my coat and left
Left Undine by the embers that’s all our fire had left
Left Undine by the shore when she sings her love at me
Oh Undine so sweet and pure I know not love as love as seen

Sleep Please Come to Me

Sleep Please Come to Me published on

Oh sleep please come to me, it’s a quarter after Three
I’ve been here since One, I’m not having any fun
Won’t you ease this misery

There are things I gotta do, oh tomorrow before noon
If you don’t make haste, the morning I will waste
Trying to get caught up to you

Oh sleep don’t close the door, it’s a-twenty after Four
It’s time these sheep were shorn, their wool is getting worn
And I can’t count them anymore

I’m asking when will you arrive, ’cause it’s getting closer to Five
Well I thought I might have sensed you round tonight
But I guess my senses lied

So still I lie here tucked in tight, in the cool, pale, blue moonlight
With my lover’s breath and the thoughts that fill my head
Instead of sweet, sweet dreams tonight

The Skeleton and the Tailor

The Skeleton and the Tailor published on

There once was a wee laddie oh who lived not so very long ago
Who had a brother with a heart of gold and they soon grew into men
The younger one had never walked, because of this he never had
The brighter view and attitude, cursed to live in a wheelie chair

Days went by, the story goes, they got the gift for making clothes
Shirts and breeches, coats and socks, blouses, kilts and hats and socks
One day after closing shop his brother wheeled him for a drop
Down at the pub where the locals drink, speaking in low tones

Tailor, tailor, all alone in the tavern sewing clothes
Tailor, tailor, don’t believe in things that walk at night

Well he sat there sipping, mending clothes
Listening to those who’d never spent the night
Beside the stone and graves on haunted hill
He said “Roll me up, we’ll make a bet, I’ll spend the night all by myself
To prove there ain’t no ghosts that haunt the stones on graveyard hill”

Tailor, tailor, all alone in the graveyard sewing clothes
Tailor, tailor, don’t believe in things that walk at night
Believe in things that haunt the moonlight

Well he sat there in the moonlight, he sat there mending clothes
He was shocked to see a big skeleton standing in the graveyard ten feet tall
He tried to kill the tailor, but he glanced him smashing stones
He took his flight for his life and walked around for evermore

Tailor, tailor, all alone in the graveyard sewing clothes
Tailor, tailor, don’t believe in things that walk at night
Believe in things that haunt the moonlight

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’

Rollin’ Rollin’ Rollin’ published on

Side of the road, in the ditch, you rust
A mouthful of mud from a fistful of dust
A heart full of hurt from a head full of wine
I’ll call you back some other time

No way I’m picking up my phone
I’m tired of talking, leave me alone
I can’t run and I can’t write
And I can’t make it home tonight

Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’
Gathering no moss
I don’t know where I’m goin’
But I know what I’ve lost

Talk is cheap but music’s cheaper
Deep in debt and getting deeper
The price is steep and getting steeper
I’m yours to keep, won’t you keep me?
I’m a keeper

Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’
Gathering no moss
I don’t know where I’m goin’
But I know what it cost

Pretty people posing questions
(I don’t wanna answer you)
Where’d you go? D’you learn your lesson?
(I put on my dancing shoes)
Who’d you meet and what’d you buy?
(Couple strangers, pair of jeans)
Just leave ‘em hanging high and dry
Bye Bye

Rollin’, rollin’ rollin’
With my imaginary friends
Imagining I know’ em
Then it’s time to roll again

Why so blue, tired and true?
(Just like that Irma Thomas song)
I’m tired of myself, not tired of you
(You’ve been gone “Two Winters Long”)
They say that good things come to those you roll
(Back to the place where you belong)
Back to someone beautiful

Rollin’, rollin’, rollin’
It’s time to get me gone
The yellow lines are glowing
Oh, highway roll me home
(Blacktop highway)
Highway roll me home

Over Land and Sea

Over Land and Sea published on

I can hear the trees start whispering
Their colours speak of change a’coming
The bluebird’s song is gone till spring
And I sit here just waiting… Oh… la la la

Through it all I’ve come to know
That all these feelings come and go
And after all is said and done
There’s nothing new under the sun

Over the river and through the trees
The north wind brings its winter freeze
But I’ve got everything I need
Except my love, come back to me… Oh… la la la

Through it all I’ve come to know
That all these feelings come and go
And after all is said and done
There’s nothing new under the sun

Oh I’ve seen all there is to see
From PEI to Calgary
From the eastern fisheries
To the disappearing forest trees

From Thunder Bay to Tofino
I’ve been as far as the highway goes
Above it all of this I’m sure
These earthly things, they can’t endure… Oh… la la la

Nowhere With You

Nowhere With You published on

Hey good lookin’ why the frown?
you always look better when it’s upside down
you say you got nowhere, that your goin to
can I go nowhere with you?

I took the Dartmouth ferry into the town
spend my pennies bummin’ around
tryin’ to find a way to tear a strip off these boots,
Can I go nowhere with you?

Paid the cover, saw the show
sat at the bar where the drinks did flow
didn’t see a single face that i knew,
’till i went nowhere with you.

Can I tag along tonight? we’ll kill some time
it looks like you might, need a little company
I’m so cheap, I might as well be free.

Hey good lookin’ why the frown?
you always look better when it’s upside down
you say you got nowhere, that your goin to
can I go nowhere with you?

Here we go
Naa na naaa na na na na
Naa na naaa na na na na
Naa na naaa na na na na
Can I go nowhere with you. Again

Can I tag along tonight? we’ll kill some time
it looks like you might, need a little company,
I’m so cheap, I might as well be free.
Whoaaaaaa!

If you get tired, you’ll go home
I’m still wired I can go it alone
same time next week at a quarter past ten
and we can go nowhere again.

If you show up then, then you know I will too
Can I go nowhere with

Hey good lookin’ why the frown?

My Lady and My Lord

My Lady and My Lord published on

Up above my shoulder the ragged rooftops rise
Casting shadows over streets they seem to despise

Come on, come on, wind and rain
I know the sun will shine again
Till then my lady and my Lord will keep me sane

I went down to the dead lake shore to see what I could see
Along the breeze came, away my cap went, my head it was set free

Come on, come on, wind and rain
I know the sun will shine again
Till then my lady and my Lord will keep me sane

And I hear a far away tune come drifting through the gray
It clears a path before my feet, it makes my fingers play

Come on, come on, wind and rain
I know the sun will shine again
Till then my lady and my Lord will keep me sane

Come on, come on, soot and storm
I know the sun will break your arm
Till then my lady and my Lord will keep me warm

Measures and Scales

Measures and Scales published on

He plays piano in a jazz band
And I love him for the man that he could be
I asked him “If I let you, would you play me?”
And delighted as he tickled every key

And he could feel the ivory skin beneath his fingertips
And I would watch the notes fall one by one from his lips
And he could snap his fingers to the beat
Of my heart, but he couldn’t feel the heat

And I want to be like lovers in an old romantic song
Where the music fades away before the love it can go wrong
But I am just a dreamer wearing sensible shoes
And I still dream in color even though I sing the blues

And he is playing scales up and down me
As we sing our tales of hope in perfect harmony
And measure out our love like the length of a song but,
It disappears somewhere when the music is gone

Every song ever written has a final note
And I sign my name below every letter that I wrote
And lovers who part give a final kiss
Now I know it’s not the player but the music that I miss

He plays piano in a jazz band
And I love him for the man that he could be
I asked him “If I let you, would you play me?”
A song that will play forever on

Oh, but I am just a dreamer wearing sensible shoes
And I still dream in color even though I sing the blues
And I want to be like lovers in an old romantic song
Where the music fades away before the love it can go wrong

Jedi Drinking Song

Jedi Drinking Song published on

I had one pint of beer, and one shot of scotch,
One bottle of wine, and a bourbon on the rocks
I had one lassie on me right, another on the left,
I looked that puppet in the eye and said give me the test!

A long time ago, in a pub far away,
I sat on a barstool, just drinking away,
I couldn’t hold it down, I guess I had too much
I felt a tremor in the force and then I lost my lunch
Woke up in desert land, feeling hot and sick,
I saw a bearded man, he looked like some kind of hick,
He slowly waved his hand, and my pain was gone
He said let’s go see Yoda, and I’ll teach you this song.

Chorus

We got on a starship, and we flew off into space
He said his name was Obi-Wan, there is no time to waste,
I have to get you trained before it’s too late,
Said drink this bottle of whisky, and don’t give in to hate.
Training went on, and I drank most of the bar
We had to stop off for supplies on the nearest Death Star
I learned to control my fear, and hold my alcohol
Soon I was able to stand when Obi-Wan would fall.

Chorus

Sat down beside him and looked him in the eye
He looked right back at me, said you judge me by my size
Obi-Wan said careful, for Yoda is the best
I said, ok shorty, bring on that test
Well I could tell you how it ended, I could tell you some lies
But let’s just say, on that night the force was on his side
I got all riled up, and they threw me in jail
I said I don’t believe it, Yoda said that’s why I failed!

Chorus
